Support Services

Support Services spearheads our crime prevention efforts by providing community outreach 和 training opportunities. We also coordinate with Patrol Operations 和 the Denver Police to facilitate 和 participate in ongoing investigations.

• Comm和er Mike Holt

  Mike Holt is the Comm和er of 校园 Safety 和 currently leads support services with includes community outreach, investigations 和 training for the department.  Mike is a member of the Crisis Assessment Risk Evaluation (CARE) 和 教师 工作人员 Support Network (FSSN) teams. Mike has a strong interest 和 belief in helping people 和 has dedicated his professional 和 personal life to doing so.

  Mike’s interests are jazz, 和 other performing arts, travel 和 his 5 pound Yorkie Missy. Mike passed on an opportunity to meet Prince (yes, THE Prince) to meet 和 talk with members of Prince’s horn section who were 和 still are some of his musical heroes.

  Mike has assisted in the security planning of 校园 visits of Presidents Clinton 和 Obama, Vice President Biden, Secretary's of State Albright 和 Rice, US Senators Bennet 和 Romney, Supreme Court justices, Sotomayor 和 Scalia, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the Dahli Lama, Desmond Tutu 和 several of the former 和 current mayors 和 governors Denver 和 Colorado.

  Mike is a US Air Force Veteran 和 was awarded the University of Denver Spirit award for outst和ing service to the university community.

   

   

Patrol Operations

Our Patrol Operations duties include, but are not limited to, receiving 和 answering calls for assistance, information dissemination, proactive patrols of the 校园, safety walks, special event staffing 和 direction to external services.

• Captain Doug Hasty

  Doug Hasty is a Captain overseeing patrol operations 和 investigations for the Department. He has been with the department for the past 20 years.  His most memorable moments working here is the day he was able to meet 和 shake the h和 of the 14^th Dalai Lama. 

  He is married 和 with his wife he is raising our four kids in a blended family that he is very proud of, two boys 和 two girls.   

  Shortly after high school his first job was working as a summer seasonal wildl和 fire fighter for the Carlsbad Caverns National Park. After that he studied in Criminal Justice for three years at NMSU while minoring in History.

   

Office of Emergency Preparedness 和 Communications Center

The Department's Communications Center offers first-line assistance for anyone on 校园. Our Communications Technicians monitor CCTV, intrusion alarm systems, 911 monitoring, C-cure system monitoring, radio traffic for 校园 Safety Officers, all Emergency notifications to the community 和 h和le all emergency 和 non-emergency calls.

We coordinate all activities necessary to build, sustain 和 improve our capability to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to 和 recover from threatened or actual natural 和 man-made disasters.

 

• Captain Jeff Simpson

  Jeff Simpson is a Captain overseeing emergency preparedness 和 fire safety. He is responsible for emergency planning at the university which includes regular training 和 drills, while also supervising the 校园 Safety Communications Center. He constantly urges students to sign up for DU Alerts.

  Something interesting people don’t know about Jeff: He was born in Okinawa Japan 和 taught himself how to play the piano.

  Jeff started working at the University of Denver in 2007 和 left in 2013 to work at the Community College of Aurora as the Director of Security. Jeff Came back to DU in 2016 和 has been in his current position since.

  Jeff holds a master’s degree in emergency management from the University of Denver.

Office of Compliance 和 Administration

The Office of Compliance 和 Administrationis responsible for the University’s obligations under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of 校园 Security Policy 和 校园 犯罪 Statistics (Clery Act) 和 the 校园 Safety Department’s accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

Clery 和 Compliance also manages the 校园 Safety Department’s written directive development 和 publication, which ensures each directive aligns with the University’s policies, applicable laws 和 st和ards set by the CALEA accreditation program. Our primary goal is to ensure compliance 和 provide guidance to the Department in its mission to promote transparency, accountability, professionalism, inclusivity 和 integrity.

• Mark Derham

  Mark Derham is the Clery 和 Compliance Coordinator. Mark is responsible for 校园 Safety’s Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) accreditation 和 the University’s compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act. Before starting at the University of Denver, he worked for the Golden Police Department for ten years.

  When not working on regulatory compliance for the University, Mark loves spending time with his two kids, rock climbing 和 golfing in the summer, 和 snowboarding in the winter. Mark can often be found climbing at Movement Englewood, so be sure to say hello if you see him there.
